HART – A 28-year-old Ludington man faces serving 16 months in prison after pleading “no contest” Monday, Dec. 2, in Oceana County’s 27th Circuit Court to second-degree home invasion.

Joshua Mark Bassett-Lynch, of 5813 Iris Rd., Pere Marquette Township, was initially charged with first-degree home invasion which was dismissed in a plea agreement. A misdemeanor charge of assault and battery in 78th District Court was also dismissed.

Bassett-Lynch was scheduled to go to trial this month for the home invasion charge.

Oceana County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Chad DeRouin said the plea agreement calls for a 16-month cap on his prison term.

Bassett-Lynch may be eligible for Special Alternative Incarceration (SAI) or boot camp. The prosecution does not oppose boot camp.

“I’m the one who makes the final decision whether I oppose it or not,” said Judge Robert D. Springstead. The Michigan Department of Corrections determines eligibility.

Bassett-Lynch testified that he invaded a home on Main Street in Hart, July 30. His attorney Timothy Hayes said his client was under the influence of drugs at the time of the offense.

The maximum penalty for second-degree home invasion is 15 years in prison.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 27 at 8:30 a.m.
