Obituary: Robert Bahr, 95, Pentwater
Robert Andrew Bahr, 95, of Bass Lake, Pentwater went to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Robert, the son of Soren and Alice (Figgins) Bahr, was born on November 25, 1923 at his parents’ home in Eden Township and graduated from Scottville High School with the class of 1942. On August 12, 1944 he married Helen Victoria Johnson in Ludington and they celebrated 70 years by each other’s side until Helen preceded him in death in 2015. Robert was also preceded in death by his son Robert in 2014; his parents; his sisters Kathryn DeRooy and Helen Meinhardi; and his brothers Richard and Louis Bahr.
Robert worked many years for C & O Railroad while also farming in Eden Township. He also enjoyed purchasing homes to remodel and sell. Upon his retirement from farming in 1976, he and Helen purchased the Riverton Store, operating for over 14 years before retiring to their home on Bass Lake north of Pentwater. Being very social people, they loved to entertain often hosting family gatherings and reunions, especially around the holidays. Robert and Helen were also longtime members of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ludington.
Robert will be greatly missed by his sons, Wayne Bahr and wife Debbie, and David Bahr and wife Judy all of Custer; his daughter Judy Nichols and husband Mark of Scottville; his daughter-in-law Barbara Bahr of Fountain; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held for Robert at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 7 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ludington with his pastor, Rev. Mick Shriver officiating. Burial will take place next to his beloved Helen at Center Riverton Cemetery. Friends may greet his family during a time of visitation on Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church.
