Western Michigan Fair kicks off Tuesday, pre-fair events begin today.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Western Michigan Fair officially kicks off on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 3 p.m., but there are plenty of activities take place beginning today with a dog show and harness racing. The following is a list of activities for the week:

  • Sunday, Aug. 4

– 3 p.m.: Dog show, main horse arena.

– 4 p.m.: Harness racing

  • Monday, Aug. 5

– 9 a.m.: Poultry show

– 9 a.m.: Beef show

– 3 p.m.: Sheep show

– 4 p.m.: Harness racing

– 6 p.m.: Still exhibit/domestic arts/antique/floriculture judging.

  • Tuesday, Aug. 6

– 9 a.m.: Swine show

– 10 a.m.: Horse show

– 1 p.m.: Gates open

– 3 p.m.: Midway opens, all rides are $1 each. Wristband available, ride unlimited rides from 3 to 11 p.m. for $22.

– 3 p.m.: Goat show

– 4 p.m.: Hayloft Entertainment Tent opens.

– 5 p.m.: West Shore Bank Family Buck Night. First 500 children through the gates receive a $1 bill.

– 7 p.m.: Grandstand event: Michigan Tractor and Truck Pullers. Admission $10.

– Dusk: Fireworks

– 11 p.m.: Midway closes

  • Wednesday, Aug. 7

– 9 a.m.: Rabbit show

– 9 a.m.: Dairy cattle show

– 9 a.m.: Horse show

– 11 a.m.: Gates open

– Noon: Midway opens

– Noon to 5 p.m.: Kids Day, all day unlimited wristbands for $15.

– 3 p.m.: Hayloft Entertainment Tent opens.

– 5 p.m.: Bicycle drawing in Hayloft Entertainment Tent.

– 5:30 p.m.: Western Michigan Fair Homemaker announced.

– 6 p.m.: Marek’s Music Makers, Hayloft Entertainment Tent

– 7 p.m.: Grandstand event: Extreme Rodeo, admission $12.

– 11 p.m.: Midway closes.

  • Thursday, Aug. 8

– Veterans and Senior Citizens admitted free.

– Fair entrance $3 per person, children ages 5 and under free.

– Noon to 2 p.m.: Special Kids’ Day.

– 3 p.m.: Midway opens.

– 3 to 11 p.m.: Read for rides: In cooperation with Mason County District Library. As elementary children read 10 books, they are able to earn tickets for free rides at the fair. Forms are available at either the Ludington or Scottville library locations. Urka Auto Experts will be providing FREE books for Read for Rides participants.

3 p.m.: Livestock Auction featuring half-time tribute to area veterans.

7 p.m.: Grandstand event: Western Michigan Old Engine Club garden tractor pull. Free admission to fairgoers.

11 p.m.: Midway closes.

  • Friday, Aug. 9

– 1 p.m.: Gates open.

– 3 p.m.: Midway opens.

– 5 p.m.: Pedal Pull for kids at show barn

– 7 p.m.: Grandstand event: SJO Supercross, $10 admission, $13 pit passes.

– 11 p.m.: Midway closes.

  • Saturday, Aug. 10

– 8:30 a.m.: Stampede 5K fun run/walk

– 9 a.m.: Barn Brawl youth wrestling tournament

– 10 a.m.: Gates open

– Noon: Midway opens, ride wristbands, $22

– 3 p.m.: Hay bale toss

– 6:30 p.m.: Grandstand event: Night of Destruction Demolition Derby, $15 admission, $20 pit passes.

– 11 p.m., midway closes.
