Ray Karboski

Obituary: Raymond Karboske, 85, Ludington.

Raymond Joseph Karboske, 85, of Ludington was peacefully welcomed into the Lord’s loving arms, at home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 21, 2019.  He was born March 19, 1934 in Mason County to Walter and Lillian (Yeck) Karboske. He graduated in 1952 from St. Simon Catholic School and went on to attend McKinley University in Chicago. He completed his automotive associate degree at Ferris State College (now Ferris State University).

After college, Ray worked for Gunberg Buick as a service manager, and also for the C&O Railroad. He then leased the Sunoco station in Scottville and opened an automotive business specializing in transmissions. Ray was generous in sharing his knowledge and talents with other people, especially when it came to anything mechanical. In 1976, Ray expanded his business as owner/operator of Ray’s Auto- Marine in Ludington on South Washington Avenue and was proud to recently pass on his love for the marina to his son, Raymond II.

He married Carolyn Ann Kronlein on April 23,1960 at St. Simon Catholic Church where he was a lifelong member. Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a proud member of the NRA. Ray loved hunting, fishing, watching deer and his labradors, all named “Skip”.  He was a charter boat captain for many years and he enjoyed spending time with “his guys” down at the docks always awaiting their safe return.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather. Ray loved his “babies”,  was a pro-life supporter and always grateful to God for every new child born into his family. He was hard-working, faithful and strong.

Ray will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn, his seven children, Anne (James) Wunsch of Saugatuck, Letha (Daniel) Fulton of Ludington, Mary Beth (Jason) Brown of Iron Mountain, Christy (Rick) Huempfner of Grand Rapids, Raymond Joseph (Jessica) Karboske II of Ludington, Lynette (Derek) Prentice of Fenton, and Joel Karboske of Detroit; his 21 grandchildren, Lydia (Dave), Lara (Zachary), Jared, Ethan (Amanda), Mariah (Austin), Ricky, Natalia, Avea,Ta’Leah, Christian, Ezrah, Isaiah, Katie, Raymond III, Lucy, Frankie, Remington, Marian, Monrae, Dominic, and Xavier, his four great grandchildren, Jayden, Ava, Aayla, and one on the way; his brother, Wally Karboske; his brother-in-law Carl and sister-in-law Alice Kronlein; and many nieces and nephews.
