SCOTTVILLE — City commission passed a resolution Monday restricting the times that residents and businesses can place their refuse on the curb and when they must remove containers from the curb. The resolution is an amendment to the city’s refuse ordinance and states that “in the interested of sanitation and sightliness, refuse, yard waste and recycling can only be placed at the street for pick up after 5 p.m. the evening before pick up day and any empty containers must be pulled back from the street no later than 6 p.m. the day of pick up.
Curbside garbage pick up takes place every Tuesday, expect when a holiday falls on a Monday, then the pick up is on Wednesday. Recycling takes place every other Tuesday and yard waste pick up is every Monday (must use compost bags purchased from the city). Residents are allowed to place one bulk item on the curb the first Tuesday of the month.
The policy is consistent with other local municipalities including the City of Ludington.
Violators may receive a citation from the Scottville Police Department.
