Obituary: Yvonne Castonia, 81, Ludington.
Yvonne Louise Castonia, 81, of Ludington passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. Yvonne was born on October 5, 1937 in Scottville, the daughter of Otto W. and Birdie (Williams) Listing. She attended Fountain School before graduating from Scottville High School with the class of 1955. On November 9, 1957 she married Ronald Castonia at St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington and have celebrated 61 years by each other’s side. Together they raised their 6 children Karen, Diane, Linda, Pamela, Kevin, and Brian.
Prior to her marriage, Yvonne attended Davenport College in Grand Rapids before returning to Mason County to start her family. Through the years she worked at Brooke’s Drug Store in Scottville, Star Watchcase and Holiday Inn in Ludington, and for the last 40 years as a property manager for many families in Epworth Heights. She and Ron were faithful members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer. Yvonne loved caring for her family, spoiling them with her wonderful cooking, canning, and especially her “Critter Quilts” that every member of her family has been blessed to receive. Although she made her quilts to be used and enjoyed, often people purchased them for the artistic beauty that went into each one.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Karen Castonia Meyer; and her great-granddaughter Alexis. She will be greatly missed by her husband Ronald; her children Diane (Tony) Zack, Linda (Paul) Northrup, Pamela (Bill) Bannon, Kevin (Suzanna) Castonia, and Brian (Kim) Castonia; her grandchildren Alex and Jozi Zack, Megan and Melissa Northrup, Rick (Kristina) Clifton, Lesa Castonia, Adam (Jessica) Castonia, Kelly Virgo, Shawn (Holly) Virgo, and Joey Castonia; her great-grandchildren Maria, Kaitlyn, Brace, Krista, Karzin, and Ellie; her brother Otto W. (Barbara) Listing III; her niece Lynne (Josh) Larsen and their son Leo.
The Celebration of Mass will be held for Yvonne at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer with Rev. Daniel DePew as Celebrant. Friends may meet with her family during a time of visitation on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church with lunch following Mass. (Due to a severe allergy in her family, those attending are kindly asked to refrain from wearing perfumes and colognes). Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring. Those who wish to make a memorial donation in honor of Yvonne are asked to consider Caritas Food Pantry at St. Mary’s Church in Custer.
