LUDINGTON – A 25-year-old Ludington man was sentenced to serve six months up front of a one-year discretionary term for a conviction of possession of child sexually abusive material in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Trevor James Coon, of 210 E. Fourth St., was initially facing a more serious charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC). “The original charge is not being bargained away,” said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski. “There is an evidentiary reason.”

“This is a serious case,” said Sniegowski, adding that Coon had “contact with an underage individual online.”

“The victim and the victim’s family are in total agreement with the sentence,” said Mason County Assistant Prosecutor Glenn Jackson III.

Sentencing guidelines in the case are 0-17 months.

“He certainly understands what he did wrong,” said Coon’s attorney Dennis Duvall.

Coon, who will have to register as a sex offender, was ordered to five years probation. He received credit for three days served, and work release is allowed.
