CUSTER TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man who died Sunday morning in a crash involving an ATV and a deer. Nolan Crawford, 43, of Custer Township, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on South Stephens Road.
According to Sheriff Kim Cole, Crawford, a 1993 graduate of Mason County Eastern High School, was driving southbound on Stephens Road, south of US 10, when he struck the deer, causing him to lose control of his 2018 Polaris ATV, which rolled over and ejected him. Emergency units were called to the scene at 7:37 a.m. after a passerby came across the crash scene.
Cole said Crawford was not wearing a helmet and speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Responding to the scene were MCSO, Custer Fire Department, and Life EMS.
