Obituary: Arlen Blank, 84, Ludington.
Arlen Siebert Blank, 84, of Ludington passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at his home. Arlen was born on July 13, 1934 in Lansing, the son of Leonard John and Helene Margaret (Siebert) Blank and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School with the class of 1951. Arlen attended Michigan State University before working for the State of Michigan. On August 23, 1958 he married Janice Yarhouse in Evart and they celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. Arlen lived and worked in the Lansing area before retiring and moving to Ludington in 1999. Along with working for the State of Michigan, Arlen worked at Bill Otto Buick, Fox Forage Harvesters, and for many years as a salesman for Massey-Ferguson Tractors, and RAM Communications. In retirement he worked at Wal-Mart Superstore in Ludington.
From the time he was a young boy, Arlen enjoyed trains as his father worked for the railroad. He was very knowledgeable about them and had quite a collection of train sets. He also enjoyed woodworking projects and saving just about everything because you never know when you might need some rare part. When his boys were younger, he served as Scout Leader for their Boy Scout Troop in Lansing. Arlen and Janice were members of Scottville United Methodist Church.
Arlen will be greatly missed by his wife Janice; his sons Arlen Michael Blank of Ludington and Christopher John (Karen) Blank of Lansing; his daughter-in-law Stacy Miller of Ludington; his grandchildren Jessica Blank of Ludington, Connor, Liam, and Shanna Robertson all of Lansing; and his sister Christiane Blank-Knaus of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Arlen’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 24 at the Scottville United Methodist Church with his pastor, Rev. Rick Hodgeson officiating. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.
