Obituary: Beatrice McCormick, 96, Fountain.
Beatrice (Klopfenstein) McCormick, 96, of Fountain passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Beatrice was born on March 8, 1922 near Fountain, the daughter of Lee and Selma (Blohm) Klopfenstein and attended Fountain School. On November 4, 1939 she married Gerald W. McCormick in Scottville and they celebrated 68 years together before Gerald preceded her in death in 2008. Beatrice was also preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Robert Lee McCormick, her grandson Justin Travis McCormick, her brother LeRoy Klopfenstein, her sister Dora Pearl Klopfenstein, and her sister-in-law Angeline Klopfenstein.
Beatrice and Gerald first lived in Ravenna before moving back to Fountain where they remained the rest of their days and were very active in their community. Beatrice was a supportive partner to Gerald throughout their life together and spent many years as the bookkeeper for Gerald in the early years operating Gerald McCormick Sawmill.
Beatrice’s greatest joy was always in the presence of her husband and their family. She loved to bake, and if by chance any of her grandchildren or great-grandchildren should stop by, she always managed to have her famous sour cream cookies available for them. In later years, Beatrice enjoyed having visitors stop by for a chat. With the two big picture windows in her home, she always knew what was going on in the neighborhood, and even knew what vehicles were driven by employees of the sawmill. When a sawmill semi would drive by, she knew who was driving and could tell if there may be a problem with it. She was able to retain her sharp mind and knowledge till the end.
After a couple of unfortunate falls at home in 2014, Beatrice moved to Tendercare of Ludington, now Medilodge where she enjoyed the companionship of her roommate and received plenty of attention from her favorite facility personnel. She was always very pleasant and well liked by all the staff.
Beatrice will be greatly missed by her sons, Jerry McCormick and wife Marcia, Lee McCormick and wife Patti; her grandchildren, J.W. (Gail) McCormick, Jeremy McCormick (Andrea), Cheryl (Joe) O’Connor, and Chevy McCormick; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Madisyn, Travis, Megan, Reegan, and Rayden, her sisters-in-law Clarice Krupinski, and Merretta McCormick, and several nieces, nephews, and great friends.
Funeral services will be held for Beatrice at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 8 at the Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services – Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville with burial to follow at Fountain Cemetery next to her beloved Gerald. Friends may visit with her family on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
