Henry Walter Phelps, 75, of Ludington, passed away on June 22, 2018.
Henry was born at home in Ludington on February 17, 1943, the son of Harold and Betty (White) Phelps. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1961 and started working on the car ferries. Henry spent most of his working career as a driver for various local business, including Abrahamson’s Towing, hauling turbine parts for the Project, Motyka Metal Products, McCormick Sawmill, Tandem, Elmers, and finally retiring from Foreway Transportation. Henry also owned and operated Phelps Satellite Systems & 4 Star Video with his family. Henry’s vibrant personality and driving background made him the perfect ”Bus-Czar” for the Scottville Clown Band. He loved his family and he loved speed! Anything that went fast caught his eye, especially boats and drag racing. Henry was the president of the Corvette Club and the Head of his household.
Henry is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Diana Phelps; children, Kristine (Richard Colyer) Phelps and Scott Phelps; stepson, Vincent Peterson; grandchildren, Lee, Cory, Ariel, and Ezra; four great-grandchildren; great friends, John VonSprecken and Jon VonSprecken; and so many other wonderful friends.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Betty Phelps; stepdaughter, Kimberlyn Peterson; and friends, John Hemmer, Herman Stohr and Paul Coleman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at Henry’s 23rd Cornburn at the ponds at 4020 W Johnson Rd, just west of the residence.
