Obituary: Michael Vanderkolk, 30, Royal Oak, formerly of Ludington.
The world lost a big, beautiful soul when Michael Lee Vanderkolk passed away Saturday March 17, 2018 at his home in Royal Oak.
Born June 2, 1987, Michael grew up in Ludington, where he touched countless lives with his “big hugs”, warm smiles and heart of gold. The only thing bigger than Michael was the love he showed for others, he was the first to be there when a friend was in need. Michael had an incredible ability to light up any room and create wonderful memories for anyone lucky enough to be in his life.
Michael’s greatest joy in life was his son Aiden and spending time with those he loved. He will be deeply missed by his family, including his son, Aiden Malburg of Grand Rapids; girlfriend, Alyssa Boyle of Royal Oak; mother, Debby Stevenson; brother, Dustin Vanderkolk; sister Krista Vanderkolk and Colin Gourley; grandmother, Patricia Stevenson all from Ludington; father, Brian Vanderkolk; grandmother, Sandra Vanderkolk of Allegan County.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandfathers Gene Stevenson and Arthur Vanderkolk.
In his passing the family asks that the loved ones of Michael take a moment to cherish the lessons learned from his life and try to feel the depth of joy that was so unique to Michael’s soul.
Sharing meals was a passion of Michael’s and the family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Lakeshore Resource Center Food Club in Michael’s memory at 920 E Tinkham Avenue in Ludington. A celebration of Michael’s life is planned for the near future.
