Obituary: Marvin Taylor, 87, Ruby Creek.
Marvin E. Taylor was born March 16, 1930 at the original homestead in Ruby Creek. He was the 10th child born to the late Grove O. and Estella M. (Augustine) Taylor and the 10th child to pass. Marvin graduated from Baldwin High School in 1949, where he was the president of his class and a state champion in track in the 440 run. He was an outstanding basketball player with college offers from both sports of which he turned down to stay home to help his parents on the farm. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from the Korean War, being stationed in Germany.
He married his sweetheart Patricia J. Cabana on January 31, 1954, they celebrated 64 years together. He made his living first as a bolt cutter with his brother, Lyle. In 1958 he joined the local #324 of the Operating Engineers Union, retiring in 1992. He worked from beginning to completion of the Ludington Pump Storage Project. He was a past master of the Masons, past worthy patron of the Eastern Stars, a proud member of the Custer VFW, serving numerous years on the honor guard. He was an avid fast pitch softball player, coach, and manager and later state certified Umpire. He loved bowling and playing cards with his brother Lyle, nephew Howard Bayle, and his bowling buddies. He loved dancing, and was a awesome whistler, and any sports on tv. He was an avid University of Michigan, Detroit Tigers and Lions fan.
Marvin is survived by his wife Patricia; his five children, Jennie L. Borema, Russell (Butch) Taylor, Becky Taylor (Tim Hansen), Amy B. (Steve) Hull, and Marva J. Taylor; 15 grandchildren, Brian J. (Lynda) Matson, Leslie L. (Craig) Borashko, Eric E. Christmann, Katie A. (Jason Kunsky) Christmann, Samantha L., Carolyn L. and Amanda M. Taylor, Sheryl E. (Adam) McVicker, Kelly R. Smith, Augusta J. (Fredrick), Alayon, Alissa K. (Anthony Puntel) Hull, Russalle J. Anthes, Emilyah M. (Nicholas Koch) Hull, Sara J. (Mike Nind) Taylor, Jennifer L. (Ryan) Tyndall; 10 great grandchildren, McKoy, Lola, and Bo Matson, Ruthie J. and Donald S. Borashko, Taylor M. Yoder, Camryn Matthews, Lyndi, Ryan Jr. and Allen Tyndall; two sisters, Bessie Jane Stolecenberg and Edna (Chick) Payne, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roy and Doris Cabana, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Alfred and Bessie Cabana, three brothers, six sisters, three sisters-in-law, eight brothers-in-law, his favorite nephews, Howard Bayle and Harlan Cole.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 16, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. A funeral will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Marvin’s name may be direct to the family.
