Lighthouse keepers wanted.

LUDINGTON — Sable Points Lighthouse Keepers Association (SPLKA) is seeking volunteers to serve as lighthouse keepers. Clean and comfortable accommodations are offered free of charge within houses at Big in Ludington State Park and Silver Lake State Park grounds, where keepers can enjoy the sand dunes and evergreen forests on their way to work on the shores of Lake Michigan.

One week and two week tours are available, May through October. To see which dates are still available, email to splkaoperations@gmail.com or call Rachel Bendele at 231-845-7417. Learn more about this unique program at www.splka.org.

SPLKA operates Sable Point Lighthouse, Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse, Little Sable Point Lighthouse, and White River Light Station Museum.

Day keeping opportunities are also available at Little Sable, White River Light Station and the Ludington North Breakwater Light, as well as volunteer opportunities with Nights at the Light programs at all four lights or bus days out to Big Sable. The special events allow for free entertainment and education for all ages of visitors, in the peak months of June through September.
