Richard Elmer Courtland, 61, of Ludington, passed away on January 1, 2018.
Richard was born on October 31, 1956 in Kalamazoo, the son of Elmer and Lillian (Ferris) Courtland. He graduated from Mason County Central High School in 1975 then finished two years of Automotive Tech at West Shore Community College. Richard married Deb Clark on October 12, 1985. He worked at Kibby Creek for several years and many different factories along the way. Most recently employed as a bagger at Shop-N-Save. Richard lived in Mason County his entire life. He was a good husband and a good father. Richard opened his home and heart to many foster children throughout the years.
Richard will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Deb Courtland; children, Jeremy (Ashley) Courtland, George (Taylor) Courtland, Josh Courtland, Hope Courtland, Tiffany Marrila, Devin Courtland, AJ Courtland, Sarah (Abraham) Gomez-Sotto, David Courtland, Michael Courtland, Ariel Courtland, and Misty (Rob) Favreau; 16 grandchildren; sister, Debbie (Steve) Duorak; mother-in-law, Janice Clark; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lillian Courtland; daughter, Shelbie Courtland, son, Timothy Courtland; daughter, Keesha May Courtland; granddaughter, Katie Phillips; father-in-law, Gerry Clark; and sister-in-law, Terry Clark.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Ludington, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, which will go toward a cemetery marker.
