MSP: Firefighter assaulted at fire scene.

BRANCH TOWNSHIP — A 50-year-old Fountain man was arrested by Michigan State Police troopers from the Hart post Sunday, Oct. 1, at approximately 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of North Campbell Road after he allegedly assaulted a firefighter responding to an “illegal burn,” which was a brush fire, said Sgt. Richard Capling of the Hart post.

“He got into a tussle with the firefighter,” Capling said. Assaulting a firefighter is a felony punishable by up to two years imprisonment.

The Branch Township Fire Department firefighter who was allegedly assaulted is a 60-year-old man. Information about his injuries was not immediately available.

The alleged assailant was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
