LUDINGTON — A 48-year-old Muskegon man faces serving five months up front of a one-year discretionary jail term after pleading guilty Tuesday, July 11, in 51st Circuit Court to heroin possession – less than 25 grams and third-offense habitual offender.

Jared Adam Canales, of 2510 Pine Grove, was arrested last May by the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT). He testified before Judge Susan K. Sniegowski that he had “like $5 worth” of heroin when he was arrested.

Canales’ sentence will include probation; a substance abuse evaluation, which he must follow its recommendations; and a suspended driver’s license for one year with a restricted license after 60 days, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola. The prosecutor said he had no objection to work release.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 12 at 3:15 p.m.
