Driver critical following US 31/PM Hwy. crash.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A man involved in a two vehicle crash Wednesday morning at US 31/Pere Marquette Highway offramp was critically injured, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The crash occurred about 8:45 a.m. when a Ford F-150, driven by Thomas Wesley Neff, 75, of Ludington, was , southbound on Pere Marquette Highway and was struck by a Dodge Caravan, driven by Kevin Charles Crawford, 25, of Ludington. Crawford was turning north from the US 31 offramp; the F-150 had the right-of-way. Crawford was pinned into the vehicle, requiring extrication personnel from Ludington Fire Department to remove him. The man was then transported by ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. According to Sheriff Cole, Aeromed was expected to transport him by helicopter to a trauma center in Grand Rapids. Neff did not appear to be injured.

Personnel from MCSO and Michigan State Police were working collaboratively to investigate the scene, Cole said.

As of posting, 11 a.m., northbound US 31 onramp remained closed.

Responding to the scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Pere Marquette Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department, and Life EMS ambulance.
