Ted Wierda, 74, of Ludington, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 20, 2017.
Ted was born on September 13, 1942 in Holland, Michigan, the son of Ted and Anne (Jansen) Wierda. He graduated from Holland High School in 1960 and joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. On August 30, 1963, Ted married the love of his life, Arlene Killian. Together they raised two daughters. Ted received his associate degree in transportation from Davenport University. He worked as a logistics manager for Gordon Food Service until his retirement in 2001.
He and Arlene were members of the Fin & Feather Club, attended Community Church in Ludington and spent many days fishing, golfing, hunting, and traveling. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with his family.
Ted’s kindness and patience will be missed by those who survive him: wife, Arlene Wierda; daughters, Tracy Wierda Overway and Kelly Wierda Dennis (John Overturf); grandchildren: Bill Overway, Jake (Nicole) Overway, and Samantha (Derek) Nietering; great grandson Finnley Nietering; sister-in-law Beverly Niebor; lifelong friends Ken and Helen DeVries; and several nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Anne and his sister, Bonnie Johnson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Community Church, 109 N. Harrison St, Ludington. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
