LUDINGTON — A 37-year-old Ludington man was arrested on cocaine possession and probation violation charges following an investigation conducted by local probation officers with the assistance of the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT), according to Det./Lt. Andrew Ambrose.
Elrico James Brooks was arraigned in 79th District Court Thursday, May 25, on the cocaine possession charge.
“A habitual offender, fourth offense notice, has been placed on the warrant,” stated Ambrose. “The charge is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. However, due to the habitual offender notice, the charge is enhanced to a 15-year felony. Brooks is currently lodged in the Mason County Jail.
“On May 15, 2017, SSCENT detectives were assisting the Michigan Department of Corrections Probation/Parole Ludington office with an investigation in the 400 block of Sixth Street in the City of Ludington. As a result of that investigation, Brooks was lodged in the Mason County Jail for violating the conditions of his probation. SSCENT continued their investigation, which resulted in the additional charge of possession of cocaine.”
Brooks is scheduled to appear for a probation hearing Tuesday, May 30, in 51st Circuit Court.
SSCENT is a multi-jurisdictional task force that serves Manistee, Mason, Oceana and Lake counties. SSCENT asks that if you have information about drug activity in your area, to call 231-843-7045 or contact your local police department.
