HAMLIN TOWNSHIP –Michael Oszust, 41, of 2927 Lena Dr., Hamlin Township, was arrested Saturday, May 6, at approximately 2:30 p.m. for bond violation after being treated at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital following a boating accident on Hamlin Lake Friday afternoon, May 5, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.
The boating accident involved Oszust, along with Cortni Gallegos, 24, of Ludington, along with her 7-year-old son, Keith. The three were rescued by personnel from Hamlin Township Fire Department after the 12-foot boat they were in overturned in Hamlin Lake. Read related story here.
“The subject had been released from the Mason County Jail on April 24, 2017 after posting bond on charges of second-offense operating while intoxicated and driving while license suspended (Ludington Police Department arrest),” Cole said. “Evidence gathered during the boat incident led deputies to suspect he had been consuming intoxicants, which is a violation of his bond.”
Oszust was arrested on April 24, 2017 for second offense operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving while license suspended. He is scheduled to appear in 79th District Court for a pretrial on May 22 on those charges. In September 2015, Oszust was found guilty in 79th District Court for operating a vehicle while impaired. He was sentenced to two days in jail and 93 days discretionary jail time for one year, along with ordered to outpatient treatment. His initial arrest by the sheriff’s office in that case, in July 2015, included a reckless driving charge, which was dismissed by the prosecution.
Oszust was released on a $3,500 personal recognizance bond.
