LUDINGTON — The following were recently sentenced in 79th District Court at the Mason County Courthouse.
-William Todd Virta, 46, of 1310 Oak Dr., Manistee, pleaded guilty Jan. 10 to impaired driving and was sentenced to 32 days in jail with credit for two days served; 93 days discretionary jail for one year; must attend victims impact weekend; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; must complete alcohol highway safety education; and $870 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to Secretary of State (SOS).
-Carey Wayne Hill, 61, of 3425 W. Sciyt Rd., Hart, pleaded no contest Jan. 10 to assault and battery and was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for one day served, 93 days discretionary jail for one year; may perform 31 hours in lieu of paying oversight fees; must have anger management evaluation; and $535 in fines/costs.
-Kathryn Janet Avra, 35, of 1830 W. Dewey Rd., Victory Township, pleaded guilty Jan. 17 to controlled substance use and was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days served; one year discretionary jail for one year; must have substance abuse evaluation; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; subject to random drug tests; driver’s license suspended for 180 days and restricted for 150 days; and $665 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS. A charge of possession of cocaine was dismissed.
-Jason Charles Gillette, 32, of 109 E. Foster St., Ludington, pleaded no contest Jan. 17 to malicious destruction of a building and was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days served; 93 days discretionary jail for one year; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; and $600 in fines/costs. May perform 60 hours of community service in lieu of fines/costs.
-Alberto Daniel Ramirez, 22, of 719 N. Emily St., Ludington, pleaded guilty Jan. 19 to disorderly person – public intoxication and was sentenced to one day in jail with credit for one day served; 90 days discretionary jail for six months; six months of probation; and $285 in fines/costs.
-Terri Lynn Peterson, 53, of 1160 Red Apple Rd., Manistee, pleaded no contest Jan. 17 to operating a vehicle while impaired by a controlled substance and failure to report an accident. She was sentenced to 93 days discretionary jail for two year; must attend victim’s impact panel; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; weekly drug tests for six months; must complete alcohol highway safety education; and $1,145 in fines/costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS. Charges of driving while license suspended/revoked/denied and failure to stop after an accident were dismissed.
-Jennifer Marie Weber, 37, of 6014 E. Decker Rd., Sheridan Township, pleaded guilty Jan. 19 to letting a dog run loose and was sentenced to pay $170 in fines/costs.
-Joel Evan Carter, 58, of 720 E. Danaher St., Ludington, pleaded guilty Jan. 19 to operating an ORV while impaired and was sentenced to two days in jail with credit for two days served; 93 days discretionary jail for one year; must attend victims impact panel; ORV license suspended for 90 days; must complete alcohol highway safety education; and $870 in fines/costs. A charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI) was dismissed.
-Gary Laverne Wiegand, 56, of 33 Wren St., Battle Creek, pleaded guilty Jan. 17 to OWI and was sentenced to 32 days in jail with credit for two days served; 93 days discretionary jail for two years; must attend victims impact panel; must attend AA twice per week; no drugs/alcohol; subject to random PBTs; subject to random drug tests; must continue current substance abuse counseling; and $1,560 in fines/ costs. Conviction is reportable to SOS.
-Steven Karl Krieg, 50, of 7060 Ohio Rd., Hamlin Township, pleaded guilty Jan. 23 to allowing another person to use a DNR kill tag and was sentenced to 90 days discretionary jail for one year; 12 months of probation; and $250 in fines/costs.
-Cameron Jay Brodsky, 24, of 4067 N. Peterson Rd., Victory Township, pleaded guilty Jan. 23 to taking a deer without a license and was sentenced to 90 days discretionary jail for one year; loss of hunting privileges through the end of 2018; 12 months of probation; and $1,250 in fines/costs.
