Obituary: Dr. Allan Parker, 91, Ludington

Dr. Allan R. Parker, 91, of Ludington, entered into rest on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.
Allan was born on February 1, 1925 in Ludington, the son of the late Earl W. and Inger J. (Andersen) Parker.
He attended Ludington High School and graduated with the class of 1943. He attended Muskegon Junior College and graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 1951. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was in the 110th Seabees Company C in the Marshall Islands. He married Hilda M. Brown on July 13, 1946 at the Ludington Community Church.
Allan practiced optometry for 46 years and retired in February 1997. He was a member of Community Church in Ludington, the Lions Club and Toastmasters. He enjoyed gardening and he was an avid supporter of Ludington sports.
He is survived by his loving wife Hilda; children: Janice Altschwager, Susan (Les) Johnson, Sara (Bill) VanHorn; grandchildren: Allan (Brecken) Altschwager, Jenna (Brian) Michalsky, Adam (Kelly) Johnson, Aaron (Mali) Johnson, Allison (Dave) DeBoer and Lisa (Hank) Montgomery; brother: Robert (Jeannette) Parker; also, nineteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Ila (Don) Talmadge; brothers: Gordon (Margaret) Parker and Dean (Marjorie) Parker.
A service will be held in memory of Allan on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Community Church in Ludington with Pastor Brett Spaulding officiating. A one hour visitation will begin at noon. Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in the spring of 2017. Memorial contributions may be directed to Community Church of Ludington.
