Ernest Charles Kish, 73, of Walhalla, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Spectrum Health of Ludington.
Ernest was born on December 7, 1943 in Gary, Indiana, the son of the late Ernest and Anne (Bodner) Kish.
He attended Gary Edison High School and graduated with the class of 1963. He enrolled in the Air Force in May of 1964 and served as a guard sergeant overseas for over a year. He was honorably discharged in February of 1967. He married Betty Lou Quick on March 20, 1976 in Gary, Indiana. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2002.
Ernest was employed as a paramedic for Porter County EMS for many years. He also served as a police officer for the Gary, Indiana police department from 1970 to 1977. He enjoyed playing softball and bowling. After retiring Ernest spent time socializing with local friends, while working a few hours a week at Riley’s Rendezvous in Walhalla. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ernest is survived by his daughter, Kelly Kruer of Walhalla; his son, Kevin Kish of Arizona; grandson, Riley Kruer; and granddaughter, Killian Kruer of Walhalla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife, Betty; his brother, Edward Kish; and his sister, Suzanne Kish.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Ludington. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. A burial will take place at Bachelor Cemetery in Sheridan Township in the spring of 2017. Memorial contributions in memory of Ernest may be directed to his family.
