LUDINGTON — A 20-year-old Branch man charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) and three counts of second-degree CSC will undergo a mental competency exam requested by his attorney.
Jordan Daniel Bates, of 1946 S. Shepperd Rd., appeared in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Dec. 13, for a preliminary exam with his attorney, Douglas Stevenson. Stevenson asked Judge Susan K. Sniegowski for an adjournment so his client can undergo a competency exam, which Sniegowski allowed.
Bates was arrested by the Ludington Police Department and was arraigned on the charges last October. According to court records, the victim was under the age of 13.
He remains lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $75,000 cash/surety bond.
