Manuel Wela Rosa, age 81, of Pentwater, and formerly of Indian, Alaska, passed away in Anchorage, Alaska, November 22, 2016. Wela was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 7, 1935. As a young man, he worked as a tile setter in Hawaii and eventually opened his own tile business and was considered one of the best in the trade. Wela was an avid hunter holding numerous world-records. Upon retirement, he moved to Alaska, and then Pentwater where he resided with his son, Michael Akamu, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie. Wela enjoyed traveling to help family and friends in Michigan, Alaska, and Hawaii with an array of projects.
He is survived by his sons Michael Akamu Rosa (Bonnie) of Pentwater, and Mark Alika Rosa (Tania) of Palmer, Alaska, and sister, Ahuena Naholowa’a.
Our lives were blessed by Wela’s kind heartedness, humor, generosity, and aloha spirit. He will be dearly missed by all, including his grandchildren: Samantha, Brooke, Kelsey, Damien, and Kailani; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, Hanai family and friends all over the world.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lani Rosa; his mother, Angeline Rosa Palakiko; father, Victor Akamu Palakiko, and siblings: Minnie Meyers, Frederick ‘Cowboy’ Rosa, Hiram K. Rosa, Matilda Rosa, and Ester Napolean.
A celebration of life service will be held at VFH Hall in Hart on December 10, 2016 noon to 4 p.m., and in Honolulu, in the spring of 2017.
