LUDINGTON — Representatives from West Shore Bank presented a check for $10,000 to the Mason County Allied Veterans Wednesday afternoon towards the construction of a veterans memorial mall which will be located at Stearns Park.

“West Shore Bank is supportive of many projects throughout our market area, but we put a high priority on projects that honor our veterans,” said Ray Biggs, president of West Shore Bank. “This memorial pays tribute to those who helped fight for our freedoms and we are privileged to be a part of it.”

The park pays tribute to all veterans but will have a special sculpture honoring Mason County native and Medal of Honor recipient William Charrette.

“This memorial will be a tribute to not only to Mr. Charette and veterans from Mason County but to all veterans,” said Michelle Hemmer, who accepted the check on behalf of the Allied Veterans. “Stearns Park is a natural location for this since it is visited by thousands of people each year.”

Budde Reed and Don Clingan, both veterans, are part of the planning committee for the veterans mall project. Reed said the donation from West Shore Bank completes the funding needed for the project, which will be formally dedicated on June 25, 2017.
