Alice Maureen Smith, 59, of Branch passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at her home.  Alice was born on April 15, 1957 in Ludington, the daughter of Richard M. and Ruth J. (Nichols) Callis and graduated from Mason County Central High School with the class of 1975.  She married James D. Smith on October 26, 2003 in Lake County after being together for many years.

Alice worked as a heavy equipment operator and was happiest when she was outdoors enjoying nature.  She loved watching butterflies and was quite the skilled mushroom hunter.  She had a huge heart and was blessed with many great friends.

Alice will be greatly missed by her husband James, her brothers and sisters: Carolyn Wilkes and Linda (Roy) Holden of Scottville, Patti Minter-Myers of Branch, Richard Callis of Walhalla, and Roger Callis of Washington; her sisters-in-law: Sherry Smith of Anderson, Indiana, and Sheila Smith of Corpus Christy, Texas; many nieces and nephews including Megan Minter, Stephanie Godfrey, Ginger Darke, Greg Hewlett, Matt and Todd Callis, and her very best friend Sherri (Greg) Myers.

A celebration of Alice’s life and gathering of friends will be held on Sunday, August 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Riverside Park in Scottville.  According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.  Those who wish to remember Alice with a memorial donation are asked to consider assisting James with expenses.  Checks may be made out directly to the funeral home.
