PENTWATER — The importance of bolstering student interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics — STEAM — was the subject of a program for the Pentwater Service Club, Feb. 4.

Aaron Myers, of the Michigan State University Extension office in Scottville, discussed the “4-H Tech Wizards” program that’s being introduced in Pentwater schools. Pentwater Public Schools Superintendent/Principal Mary Marshall recently sent out a community-wide appeal for adult mentors to work with students on Mondays after school.

“You don’t need to be a tech genius to mentor,” wrote Marshall in her recent email. “You just need an appreciation for how technology impacts our world and be ready to motivate kids to do the thinking. The 4-H program has great resources to support you in this endeavor.”

Myers told the service club audience how the Tech Wizards program matches youth ages 8-17 with positive adult role models who want to have a positive impact on young people.

Those interested in becoming mentors should contact Marshall at 231.869.4100 ext. 226.
