Joseph J. Betka, 87 of Ludington passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Joe was born on March 25, 1928 in Ludington, the son of Joseph John and Regina (Maternowski) Betka, and served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. He retired from Dow Chemical and was a longtime member and five year Past-President of the Ludington Aerie Eagles Club. Joe was also a member of the Edwin Ewing American Legion Post 76, and the Ludington Boat Club. He was quite the “social butterfly” and was loved by everyone who met him.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, his son Kevin Betka, and his sister Mickey Belke.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters Debbie Dunham, and Lorie (Chuck) Wingelaar, his companion Maxine Wainright, his grandchildren Lacey Brinley Lynch, Keith (Jody) Sarres, Jesse (Anna) Sarres, Maxwell Wingelaar, and Amanda Wingelaar, his great-grandchildren Aiden, Kieran, and Arin Sarres, Marion and Grayson Sarres, his brother Alvin Betka, his sisters Virginia Bentz, Arlene Barrett, and MaryAnn (Larry) Chaffee, his sister-in-law Lee Ann (Bob) Malec, several nieces and nephews, and many great friends.
A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held at a later date. Those who wish to remember him with a donation are asked to consider Hospice of Michigan – Mason County.
