WSCC awards scholarships.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP – The West Shore Community College Foundation and the college’s Financial Aid Office have announced the names of 146 students who have been selected to receive scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year. The amount of scholarships awarded totals $180,200.

The 146 recipients make up one of the largest cohorts since the college and its foundation began awarding scholarships over 40 years ago. This year, 222 students applied and the selection committee consisted of representatives from the Student Services office, faculty members, and other college employees from various campus offices. Several scholarship recipients were chosen by the donors who provide scholarships.

Scholars were selected based on academic ability and achievements, persistence, leadership, and financial need. The next application cycle for scholarships will run from early February to mid-April.

“Community colleges hold some of best talent in the nation, but often these students need financial resources, guidance, and support in order to take the next step in higher education,” says Interim Foundation Director Thomas Hawley. “The support and generosity of many scholarship donors helps us attract and nurture the best, enabling students to benefit from the premier educational experience we offer.”
