Nancy Ann Brooks, 84 of Ludington, died peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Willowbrook Care Home in Scottville. Nancy was born on May 26, 1930 in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Isaac and Dora (Prather) Kesler, and graduated from Olney High School with the class of 1948. On August 8, 1949 she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Brooks in Olney, and they have celebrated 65 blessed years together.
Nancy loved being a mother and grandmother. Her blue eyes lit up when she got to spend time with her family and friends sharing a meal, playing her organ, and talking late into the night. Nancy had a spirit for adventure. She liked to visit new places and learn new things. She taught herself how to type and worked several years as a secretary. When she was 49, she went back to college and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from West Shore Community College in 1980. She loved working with people and gave each patient her best.
Nancy was a member of Community Church in Ludington and enjoyed singing in the choir. In their retirement, she and Ken cherished their time together traveling to Florida, Texas, and Arizona. It is with joy and sadness that we say good-bye. She now joins her parents and daughter Deborah Ann Sales along with many others who have been anxiously awaiting her arrival in heaven. When we want to see her, all we need to do is look up and smile – she’ll be there . . .
Nancy will be greatly missed by her loving husband Kenneth, her children Dennis Brooks of Allegan, Michael (Mary) Brooks of Ventura, CA, Douglas (Candice) Brooks of Truckee, CA, Kendra (Tim) Gibson of Ludington, her son-in-law Barney Sales of Argyle, TX, her beloved grandchildren Ken and Lara Brooks, Mary Komejan, Kendra Sales ( David) Tabor, Amanda Sales (Paul) Wilson, Samantha and Hanna Gibson, Adam and Dylan Brooks, her precious great-grandchildren Stella and Aaron Tabor, Molly, Matthew, and Mikey Wilson, and Eleanor Komejan, her brother Richard (Evelyn) Kesler of Champaign-Urbana, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held for Nancy at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 18 at the Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville, with Pastor Gene McClellan officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington. Friends may meet with the family for a time of visitation on Monday from 12:00 noon until time of services at the funeral home.
