LUDINGTON — Tonight’s ball drop in downtown Ludington will take place no matter the weather conditions. Nick Tykoski, one of the event’s organizers, said that a meeting was held earlier today with Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett to discuss the forecasted high winds. The National Weather Service is calling for winds of 45 mph. Tykoski said the ball drop will take place no matter what, but the ball may not “drop” from as high of a distance.
“We’ve got that thing tied down pretty good. But, it may only be a 30-foot drop,” Tykoski said.
This is the sixth year of the ball drop. Temperatures and weather conditions over the years have varied from heavy snow to 60-degrees.
A fireworks display is scheduled immediately after the ball drop.
