LUDINGTON — United Way of Mason County has raised 66.23% of its $370,000.00 goal, with pledges totaling $245,053.40. Over 98% of the dollars raised will stay in Mason County.
According to Lynne Russell, executive director, the employees of Metalworks wrapped-up their workplace campaign raising a combined total of $50,250.00. “I was in complete amazement when their workplace campaign chair told me how much they raised. It is really unbelievable what can be accomplished when everyone comes together around a common cause,” said Russell. This week the employees of Great Lakes Castings will be officially kicking-off their workplace campaign, while several companies continue to wrap-up their workplace campaigns.
The dollars raised from this year’s campaign will be awarded to local programs that are helping children to achieve their potential, working with adults and families to be financially stable and independent or improving people’s health, Russell said.
Last year, United Way of Mason County awarded money to 15 local programs that are addressing one or more of the above priority areas. In addition, they help fund the 2-1-1 Information and Referral Program and Volunteer West Michigan. These two services provide a centralized location for Mason County residents to access needed health and human services and locate available volunteer opportunities.
“Our United Way is committed to working for the greater good of the entire community by tackling the causes, not just the symptoms, of Mason County’s toughest challenges. That is why they go beyond raising dollars, and bring together all sectors of our community – individuals, business, nonprofit organizations and government – to create long-term change that produces well-educated, healthy and financially stable individuals and families,” stated Steve Brown, Campaign Cabinet and Board member.
