Firefighters help toddler stuck in box.

November 7, 2014

SUMMIT TWP. — Riverton Twp. firefighers are the heroes of a 2-year-old boy today. The fire department was called to a home on Pere Marquette Hwy. near Kistler Rd. about 9:50 a.m. Friday. The boy apparently had become stuck in a small plastic toy box.

Riverton Twp. Fire Chief Joe Cooper said the boy had been standing up in the box and then squat down, causing his knees to get trapped. Not knowing the exact situation, Cooper had the department respond with two trucks, carrying a variety of extrication tools.

“We ended up using cable cutters,” Cooper said. “We just took our time and cut slowly. He was a little nervous, more embarrassed, I think.”

Afterwards, the firefighters showed the boy and his siblings the fire trucks and let them blow the siren and turn on the lights.
