RIVERTON TWP. — A Riverton Township farmer was injured when a 2,000 bushel grain bin toppled over while he was on top of it tonight. According to Riverton Township Fire Chief Joe Cooper, said Chris Thurow, 46, was trapped by the soy for 20 to 45 minutes this evening before emergency personnel tried to free him at Thurow Farms LLC on Chauvez Road.

Thurow was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by Life EMS ambulance. Cooper said he believed that Thurow may have had a broken arm and a broken leg. Part of Thurow’s leg was trapped under the bin until a loader was able to free him. A family member has confirmed that Thurow was flown by AeroMed helicopter to a Grand Rapids hospital with multiple broken bones.
