Joseph Armstrong, 84, of Dayton, OH longtime resident of Free Soil, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014 at his Ohio home cradled by his family.  He was born on September 2, 1930, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Robert and Velma (Smith) Armstrong, and graduated from Free Soil High School.  He was an avid sports enthusiast and devout Christian.  He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors; grilling out with family and friends; and playing and teasing his grand ones.

On July 22, 1950 he married Carrine White and she survives him; along with their 6 children Lin Ward of Midland, MI, Joseph Armstrong of Cleveland Heights, OH,  Barbara Johnson of Washington Township, OH, Elizabeth Ivory of South Euclid, OH, Robert Armstrong of University Heights, OH and Mark Armstrong of Twinsburg, OH, 15 Grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father Robert Armstrong, his mother Velma Armstrong and his one sister Mary Armstrong.
