Country Kids Day at White Pine Village

white pine villagePERE MARQUETTE TWP. — Historic White Pine Village will present Country Kids Day on Thursday, Aug. 21. The event is a combination of two regular events, Down on the Farm Day and Children’s Day. The day is geared with attractions for kids of all ages including a farm animal petting zoo, horses from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol and exhibits from Mason County 4-H. Also featured will be crafts such as spinning, weaving, quilting, candle making, blacksmithing and flintknapping.

“Our mission as a nonprofit organization is to promote, preserve, and educate our visitors on the history of Mason County, it’s inhabitants and their lives,” said Kate Arbogast, executive director of the Mason County Historical Society. “It’s important for the Society to be able to show the rural livelihood that built the community we are so proud of.”

The sawmill will run at 11 a.m. and musical entertainment by the Ludington Recorders Group is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Ice cream will be served at the Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor, and there will be a display of a real, modern combine on the grounds, along with the many old pieces of farm machinery which is on permanent display.

The admission price for this special event will be $11  for adults, $6  for children (6-17); 5 years old and younger are free, and $29  for an entire family (parents and children 17 and under, or grandparents and grandchildren 17 and under). To visit Historic White Pine Village, take Pere Marquette Highway south 2 miles from the airport, then west on Iris Road 1 1/2 miles, and north 1/2 mile on South Lakeshore Drive.
