AMBER TWP — Law enforcement is clearing the scene at the Meijer store on US-10 this morning after a report of a man swinging a baseball bat inside the store.

Lt. Jeff White of the Hart post of the Michigan State Police said two Hart troopers and other local enforcement were still at the scene as of 10:15 a.m., and few details are available right now. More information may be available later today, White said. Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole confirmed that the sheriff’s office assisted. Life EMS ambulance was also called to the scene.

“There was a guy swinging a bat around in the store,” White said. “It may be drug-related.”

A witness, who posted on Facebook, said that she saw three young men “whacked out” in the store, one of them grabbing a bat and knocking down a cooler. She then saw the police searching a vehicle in the parking lot.

There is a vehicle in the parking lot that police are investigating, the lieutenant said. “(Police) are staying there until they find out if the vehicle is connected (to the incident).”
