PERE MARQUETTE TWP. — George William Winters, 60, was arrested by Mason County Sheriff’s Office at 5:57 a.m. Saturday after he allegedly set two camp tents on fire on private property on South Jebavy Drive. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the incident occurred after an argument between Winters and the owners of the tents. The area is known to be a campsite for homeless people.

Winters, who is listed by the court as being homeless, was charged with three counts of arson and is being held at the Mason County Jail on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in 79th District Court for a preliminary examination on August 13 at 11:15 a.m.  Winters has previous arson-related arrests, among other arrests.  In November, 2013, he was sentenced in district court  for larceny less than $200. He was sentenced to 93 days discretionary jail for two years.
