UPDATED. AMBER TWP. — Two people were taken to the hospital by ambulance following two separate crashes on U.S. 10 Thursday afternoon.
The first crash occurred about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 10-31 and Stiles Rd. The second crash occurred about 30 minutes later at the U.S. 10/U.S. 31 onramp.
The Stiles Road crash happened after the 20-year-old female driver of an east-bound Dodge Neon attempted to make a left turn onto Stiles Road and was struck by a west-bound Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 45-year-old Kentucky man. The driver of the Neon was from southern Michigan, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office. No other occupants were in either vehicle.
The Suburban ended up in the ditch on the north side of U.S. 10-31.
Deputies on scene said the driver of the Neon was being issued a citation for failure to yield. She was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by Life EMS ambulance. Also on scene was Scottville and Ludington fire departments and Michigan State Police.
The U.S. 31 on-ramp crash occurred when an east-bound Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by a 27-year-old Ludington woman, rear-ended an east-bound Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 19-year-old Scottville man. The Malibu was stopped at the traffic light. The driver of the Malibu told MCP that he did not believe the female driver of the Cobalt stopped until a few feet from his vehicle.
The occupant of the Cobalt, a 63-year-old Scottville woman, was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by Life EMS ambulance. On scene was Pere Marquette and Ludington fire departments and Michigan State Police. The driver of the Cobalt was cited for failure to stop.
According to the Michigan State Police trooper on scene, he was assisting at another rear-end crash that had occurred earlier when the second crash happened at the same location. That crash involved three vehicles. One person was also cited in that crash as well, but there were no injuries.
