Flags lowered to honor former Lt. Gov. Binsfield

LANSING – Gov. Rick Snyder today called for the lowering of all U.S. flags on all state buildings and within the state capitol complex Friday, July 18, through Sunday, July 20, in honor of former Lt. Gov. Connie Binsfeld, who passed away Jan. 12.

Flags should be returned to their full-staff position on Monday, July 21.

The flag order coincides with a memorial for both Binsfeld and her husband John, who also passed away earlier this year. The memorial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Glen Arbor Township Hall in Glen Arbor.

“Connie was a trailblazer, who held leadership positions in Michigan’s legislative and executive branches of government. She will forever be an inspiration to Michiganders who desire to make a positive difference,” Snyder said. “Her work to support women, children and families as well as protect Michigan’s natural resources will remain a lasting legacy. My thoughts are with her family and friends.”

This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.

When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position. The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
