Scottville Summerfest begins tonight with cruise, music and a movie

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville Summerfest weekend kicks off tonight with a sunset car cruise, live music and then a free movie.

Car enthusiasts who wish to take part in the sunset cruise will meet at the Mason County Central High School parking lot. Registration is at 5 p.m. and the cruise leaves at 6 p.m. The cruise will end at the Scottville Clown Band Shell, located next to the Scottville Optimist Center.

Live music with Hard Promises, featuring John Merchant, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the shell.

The Disney hit “Frozen” will be the featured free film on the grounds of the shell at 9:15 p.m. (Start time may vary slightly depending on light).

Those attending the concert or the movie are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and warm clothes. The Scottville Optimists will be selling refreshments, including popcorn.

Saturday will feature a classic car show on South Main Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show will include music from DJ Jeff Claveau of IOS.

On North Main Street, antique enthusiasts can receive $5 appraisals from Cole’s Antique Villa’s popular appraisal day.

Sunday will feature the famous Scottville Chicken Barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. at Riverside Park’s Western Michigan Old Engine Club. The old engine club will also be holding a tractor pull at that time. Every $2 of barbecue ticket sales will be donated to the Scott Dumas recovery fund.

The Rubber Ducky Race will take place at 3 p.m. in the Pere Marquette River. The ducks will launch on the east side of Riverside Park and travel to the west side of the park. Ducks can still be purchased from downtown merchants or the day of the race.
