Luise Frieda Schmidt, age 76, of Reed City passed away at the Autumn Winds AFC, Ludington on Friday evening, July 4, 2014, following the recent diagnosis of a terminal illness. Luise was born December 5, 1937, the daughter of Robert and Hedwig Brummer of Nicklashausen in the District Tauberbischofsheim, Germany.
On January 16, 1961, Luise married Kenneth Schmidt, a United States Army Staff Sergeant stationed in Germany. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2010.
Luise was employed at Evart Products in Evart for 25 years, retiring in 2000. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, the outdoors and was quite skilled in harvesting deer with her own M-1 service rifle. Luise is survived by her two daughters Ingrid (David) Herweyer of Vogel Center, Judy (Tommy) Lemire of Scottville, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, her brother Helmut (Ingeborg) Brummer of Frankfurt, Germany, her sister Irmgard (Eric) Erne of Berne, Switzerland, her brother-in-law Arthur (Janet) Schmidt of Hersey, and her sister-in-law Mary (Rex) Eastman of Evart, Michigan. She was preceded her in death by her sister Getta and husband Helmut in Germany, her brothers-in-law William, Don, Lyle, and Robert Schmidt, her grandson Richard Herweyer and granddaughter Michelle Schmidt.
Per Luise’s request, cremation has taken place and no memorial service is planned at this time. Those who wish to make contributions in her memory are asked to consider the American Cancer Society.
