VICTORY TWP. — Professional jazz trumpeter Walter White was the guest musician during the annual West Shore Community College Foundation Gala Friday night, which included entertainment by the WSCC Jazz Ensemble. White is a Detroit native who attended Interlochen Academy of Fine Arts. He his resume includes performing with Bob James, Dave Holland, the Mingus Big Band, the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Gunther Schuller, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, The Jaco Pastorius Big Band, and Arturo Sandoval. He also toured with trumpeter Maynard Ferguson.
The WSCC Foundation helps support the performing arts at the college. Last year donations to the foundation helped to underwrite $15,000 in scholarships, along with concerts and plays at the college.
