EDEN TWP. — A 14-year-old Eaton Rapids boy was severely injured Sunday afternoon in a golf cart accident in southeastern Mason County. Spencer Matthews received a head injury after he was ejected from the golf cart he was riding about 5 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Steve Hansen of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
“We don’t know at this time how he received the injuries,” Hansen said. “We are still investigating.”
The accident happened on private property near Whiskey Creek resort. However, the boy was transported by private vehicle from the scene and eventually intercepted by emergency personnel on Custer Road near Hawley Road.
Riverton Twp. Fire Chief Joe Cooper was first on the scene. Matthews was transported to Spectrum Health Ludingotn Hospital and then sent by Aeromed helicopter to a hospital in Grand Rapids, Hansen said.
