Father of Trooper Butterfield passes away

Paul T. Butterfield, father of Michigan State Police Trooper Paul K.  Butterfield II, lost his battle with cancer Friday. The younger Butterfield was killed on Sept. 9, 2013 on North Custer Road in Free Soil Township by 19-year-old Eric Knysz of Irons. During Knysz’ trial and sentencing, the elder Butterfield wore a protective mask and had been going through treatment.

Both father and son were Michigan State Police troopers. Paul T. Butterfield lived in eastern Michigan.
