Kaines West Michigan is business of the year

HAMLIN TWP. — Kaines West Michigan was named the 2013 Business of the Year during the annual dinner of the Ludington & Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce dinner at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

“This came as kind of a little bit more than a surprise to me,” said owner Les Kaines. “This company has been successful not because of me but because of the great folks I get to work with.”

Kaines West Michigan was started in 1965.

“I look forward to coming to our company every day. I work with a great group of people. Some of these people have worked with us for 20 to 30 years. I feel really sorry for all the people in this world who get up in the morning and go to a job they don’t love.

“I am very lucky because I get to live here in Mason County. This is a great place to raise a family and a great place to live. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Kaines was among five Mason County businesses nominated for the award. Other nominees included Adam’s Construction and General Contracting, Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital, The Mitten Bar and Northstar Chiropractic.
