Dostal earns top hospital executive credential

LUDINGTON — Drew H. Dostal, vice president of operations at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital, recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the premier credential for hospital executives.

Dostal was appointed to his present position in September, 2013. He had previously been senior director of surgical and ambulatory services and has been on the hospital staff since 2007.

“By becoming an ACHE Fellow and earning the distinction of board certification from ACHE, health care leaders demonstrate a commitment to excellence in serving their patients and the community,” says Deborah J. Bowen, president and chief executive officer of ACHE.

To obtain fellow status, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including passing a comprehensive examination, meeting academic and experience criteria, earning continuing education credits and demonstrating professional/community involvement. Fellows are also committed to ongoing professional development and undergo recertification every three years. Only about 9,000 executives in the health care industry have earned the distinction.

ACHE is the nation’s leading professional society for health care executives. Dostal’s achievement means Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital has three leaders who have earned the FACHE credential. The others are president Mark Vipperman and vice president of nursing Helen Johnson.
