Kate Krieger of Ludington has joined the Mason County Press team. Born and raised in Mason County, Kate is no stranger to the goings on in the west Michigan area and she is very excited to get back into local journalism.
With a bachelor’s degree in journalism and broadcasting from Grand Valley State University, Krieger has worked for different media outlets, covering a wide range of beats, including education, government, features and social science. She took a side step from her writing career to receive her master’s of social work degree in 2007 from Grand Valley, but has always kept her foot in the journalism door, even if not as a full time career.
“I have been working as a school social worker over the last six or so years, but I have really missed writing as a full time career.” she stated. “I did a lot of academic writing in social work, but it isn’t the same as being a reporter, but I have been able to do a lot of writing on the side,” she said.
“I moved back to the Ludington area about a year ago and I am very excited to be able to report on the happenings in my hometown and surrounding areas. West Michigan is very near and dear to me and I look forward to being able to share the stories of those who live here.”
Kate will be covering a variety of beats for the Mason County Press, as well as some reporting for our sister site Manistee County Press.
“I am happy to be able to give back to a community that has always been very good to my family and me. I am looking forward to connecting and reconnecting with many people in the area to assist them in getting their news, ideas and personal missions out to the public.”
“Kate’s insight and knowledge of our area along with her journalism experience makes her the perfect fit for MCP,” said Rob Alway, editor-in-chief. “I think Kate fits great with the mission of our news organization and I know she will be a key asset.”
